May 2009: Northern Parula (Parula americana), female Northern Parulas are the quintessential but not often seen American wood warbler. This female migrating up the Atlantic coast in Kittery Point, lacks the brilliantly colored necklace and blue wings of the male but she is well camouflaged from predators when nesting. Another week of leaves filling out and she'd be all but invisible. She was so quick I didn't know what I had fetched until I had her up on the big screen. © Copyright 2008 Phillip Augusta.
