April 2009: Eastern Bluebirds (Sialia sialis), male left, female right Females are drabber and greyer than the red, white, and blue males. Note how her tail is above her droopy wingtips, that's the sign of a thrush and their lovely songs confirm it. In milder New England winters small flocks will stick around much longer than usual and shift their diet from insects to berries and seeds. These two were fetched already paired up in April by a Massachusetts reservoir. © Copyright 2008 Phillip Augusta. All rights reserved. |
